Dr Meave Baxter took the long way into GP. Another County Down native, she studied medicine at NUI Galway and graduated with an honours degree. After completing her internship she headed to New Zealand to gain experience in Trauma and Orthopaedic medicine. On her return to Ireland, she enrolled in The General Medical training scheme and obtained her membership exams to the RCPI. It was at this stage that she realised that she loves the variety of medicine and was accepted into the North Eastern GP Training scheme. Along the way, she obtained her diplomas in women’s health and paediatrics, and these remain her primary interests. Outside of work she is a keen mountain biker and loves the outdoors. She is a real dog lover with 2 rescue mutts and 2 cats who rule the house.
