Menopause is not a new trend or phenomenon

Menopause is not a new trend or phenomenon. It is a fact that every woman who survives into her 40’s or 50’s will experience menopause i.e. half of the world’s middle-aged population.

We all have mothers, aunts, sisters or grannies who have experienced menopause. Often the term “sure I didn’t even notice it” has been used to minimise the physical and emotional effects of hard-working women, usually at the hub of the family, with no time to complain and no one to listen or understand.

My own dear mother Molly lived into her 90s, she however had the torture of two low-impact osteoporotic hip fractures and a stroke in her 70s. This was the start of her physical demise, with her quality of life for the next 20 years drastically reduced as a direct result of post-menopausal loss of bone density and increased cardiovascular risk.

In our community and in our nursing homes we witness this same story on a daily basis.  Menopause treatment is not just about the reduction in vasomotor symptoms in women. It is so much more.

We at Clermont Health are happy to answer menopause concerns of any type. We believe in evidence-based treatment and advice. Myself, Dr Baxter and Dr Whately are all active members of The British Menopause Society and regularly engage in any new learning and training provided in order to be able to give the best service and advice to our patients.
